Our partner is an IT services company working on behalf of a major client in the energy sector (gas, electricity, trading). They are looking for an experienced Business Analyst to join their team in Budapest and contribute to the development and enhancement of an internally built application supporting Short Term Position Management within the Power trading domain.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in business analysis within financial services or trading environments, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities. This is a long-term contractor opportunity with a hybrid work model.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with Power trading, risk, operations, and other stakeholders to understand business objectives and workflows
  • Capture, refine, and document business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Analyze existing processes and system behavior to identify gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with developers to determine optimal design patterns and technical approaches
  • Break down requirements into actionable development tasks and ensure clarity for the development team
  • Participate in design sessions, providing business context and alignment with intended outcomes
  • Work closely with QAs to define testing requirements, scenarios, and data needs
  • Support functional testing, UAT preparation, and defect triage
  • Coordinate UAT cycles and assist in planning release schedules
  • Support go-live activities, including documentation and early-life issue resolution

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst in financial services, energy trading, banking, or similar domains
  • Prior exposure to Power trading or commodities trading environments is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and agile methodologies
  • Ability to break down complex problems into structured requirements and tasks
  • Experience collaborating with technical teams on design and solution evaluation
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising across business, development, and QA teams
  • English: minimum B2 level
  • Strong analytical thinking, documentation skills, and attention to detail

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with trading systems, risk management, or related financial applications
  • Understanding of real-time data processing, trade lifecycle workflows, or position management concepts
  • Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or similar requirement-tracking systems
