The Market Data Site Reliability and Engineering maintains systems and applications that disseminate market and internally generated data throughout the firm. The focus is on maintaining highly available systems that can process & distribute large quantities of data with very low latency. These systems carry real-time data such as stock prices, index values, option prices, Fixed Income and FX instruments. The role involves not only maintaining the real-time data distribution platforms but also referential, historical, time series data and firm contributions.  Peak message rates can exceed 10 Millions/second at microsecond precision with daily volumes exceeding 3 Billion updates on any given day and market.

This position is within the Market Data Distribution Platform Integration and Engineering role. The person will be part of a global team of engineer level resources who will be responsible for much of the day to day running of the market data plant including the production management of the software developed by the global development teams.

Typical activities include:

  • Design and configuration of global market data distribution system with optimal latency profile.
  • Periodical review of plant capacity and planning for market volatility.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve plant stability and security.
  • Work with global market data users to scope and integrate varied client requirements into the production distribution plant.
  • Collaborate with clients and development teams to meet market data feed migration and continuous growing regulatory requirements.
  • Proactively explore productivity improvements of integration’s day-to-day work.
  • Work closely with development to test and quality assured new releases.
  • Conduct timely hygiene activities such as O/S upgrades, security enhancements, and software upgrades.

Skills Required:

  • UNIX/Linux operating systems: Candidates should understand UNIX concepts in order to perform resource monitoring and be able to tune operating system parameters according to applications requirements.
  • UNIX/Linux scripting: Candidates need to be proficient in navigating UNIX servers, have good knowledge of the majority of operational functions in UNIX and be able to read/write and maintain UNIX shell scripts.

Programming languages: Candidates should have some exposure to Python as a scripting language as a minimum. The deeper the knowledge the better. Java/C++/Perl will be a plus.

  • Networking (e.g. TCP/IP): Additional technical skill on the networking side; understand the concepts of TCP/IP and UDP connectivity and data transfer. Knowledge of multicast is an advantage.
  • Experience on management of global distribution systems, familiar with configuration management/capacity management & HA.
